Shelby Announces $579,000 for the Town of Shorter

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) will award $579,000 to the Town of Shorter to extend its sewer system.

“This funding is good news for the residents of Shorter who have not had access to sanitary sewer connections,” said Shelby.  “It is important that we support our communities’ infrastructure so that they can effectively support residents and businesses.”

The sewer extension is expected to result in approximately 1.75 miles of sewer collection lines and will serve 36 households and five businesses.  In addition to ARC funds, the total expected project cost of $1,206,000 includes $249,000 from state funds and $378,000 from local funds.
