U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) will award $75,000 to the Town of West Point for its sewer system.
“It is critically important that local communities have the infrastructure necessary to encourage economic growth and attract new businesses,” said Shelby. “The extension of sewer lines will better serve the needs of the new businesses in West Point, which will bring new jobs to the area.”
The sewer project will install more than half of a mile of pipe and provide sewer service to 20-30 area residences and businesses. In addition, the project is expected to create 40-60 jobs in the region. In addition to ARC funds, the total expected project cost of $176,422 includes $101,422 from local sources.
