Shelby Announces $5.1 Million for Alabama State Port Authority

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration has awarded $5,173,000 to the Alabama State Port Authority for construction of the Garrows Bend Intermodal Container Terminal Facility.  Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing this funding.

“The Alabama State Docks have the potential to become one of America’s most economically viable ports due to their proximity to emerging trade routes in the Gulf of Mexico,” said Shelby.  “For this reason, it is essential to modernize this important economic asset to our state.  This funding will be used for construction of a world-class deepwater container terminal and intermodal container facility at Choctaw Point.”
