U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Energy has awarded $492,000 to Auburn University for its Southeast Bioenergy Initiative.
“The greatest challenge facing our nation today is energy,” said Shelby. “For this reason, it is critical that we explore all of the domestic resources available to begin to end our dependence on foreign oil. Auburn’s Southeast Bioenergy Initiative is an example of Auburn’s continued leadership on research into biomass and alternative fuels. This grant will provide the Auburn with the funds needed to continue developing technology that will produce alternative fuels to help our country end its dependence on foreign oil.”
