U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $74,231 to the Morgan County Child Advocacy Center. This grant is awarded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which provides funding for local agencies to create and use programs that prevent and control crime based on their own identified needs. Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing this funding.
“The trauma experienced by children who have been abused is horrific,” said Shelby. “It is critical that we do all we can to help young victims. This grant will be used by the Morgan County Child Advocacy Center to continue its efforts to provide protective services to children that have been sexually or physically abused.”
