U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration will release $290,700 to the city of Guntersville for wetland mitigation for the new runway project at the Guntersville Municipal Airport.
The wetland mitigation must be completed before the runway construction can begin.
“A strong transportation infrastructure is critical to attracting new businesses and industry,” Shelby said.
“The Guntersville Municipal Airport is in need of a new runway. This important funding will be used to complete necessary wetland mitigation prior to the start of construction on the much-needed new runway.”
