U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.) today announced that the Alabama State Port Authority will receive $580,000 for perimeter fencing around their facility in Mobile. This grant is part of the Department of Homeland Security’s efforts to increase security at our nation’s ports.

Sen. Shelby said, “I’m pleased to announce this grant for the Alabama State Port Authority. This funding will have a significant impact on improving security at the facility in Mobile, and I applaud the Department of Homeland Security for taking the necessary steps to protect our ports.”

The Port Security Grant Program provides resources for security planning and projects to improve dockside and perimeter security. In total, 442 projects across the nation will receive a portion of over $179 million.

“We must continue to provide our ports with the necessary resources to ensure their safety, viability and security into the future,” Shelby concluded.
