SHELBY ANNOUNCES MILITARY FUNDING FOR HUNTSVILLE'S REDSTONE ARSENAL

U.S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-AL) announces the Senate Appropriations Committee's passage of the Military Construction Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2002. Included in the bill at the request of Senator Shelby is significant military funding for Alabama and for Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.

The bill includes $4 million for the completion of concept development, cost estimation, and design of the Measurement and Signature Intelligence (MASINT) Test, Evaluation, and Acquisition Support Center (MASINT/TEA) on Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama. This center, along with its sister facility in West Virginia, will allow the U.S. intelligence community to integrate critical MASINT capabilities to better collect and analyze information that is important to fighting the war on terrorism and supports our broader U.S. national security objectives.

Also included is $7.498 million for construction of an Alabama Army National Guard Patriot Unit Training Equipment Site and Direct Support Maintenance Shop on Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama. This unit has been very active and this modern facility will greatly benefit their ability to remain active and execute their mission when called to operate with active components.

Senator Shelby also secured $7.2 million for construction of a new dining facility on Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama.

"I am pleased to announce these funds for Redstone Arsenal," said Shelby. "These funds represent our continuing commitment to our nation's security and to the men and women who serve our country."

The Military Construction Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2002 includes a total of $105.581 million for Alabama military construction projects.
