WASHINGTON, D. C. – Wednesday, February 3, 2016 – U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) today applauded Etowah County students that he has nominated to the United States Military Academy. This year Senator Shelby nominated 35 students from across the state of Alabama. The service academies include the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
“I am proud to nominate these distinguished students to the United States Military Academy,” said Senator Shelby. “These young men are among the best and brightest in Alabama as evidenced by their excellent performance both inside and outside the classroom. It is my honor to recommend them, and I wish them the best of luck in all their future endeavors. I am confident that they will go on to achieve great things.”
In order to be considered for nomination, applicants must be residents of Alabama and complete the required ACT or SAT exams. They must also provide letters of recommendation, a school transcript, a completed medical examination, and a completed application form found on Senator Shelby’s website.
The following Etowah County students have been nominated:
- Michael Green, son of Michael Green and Melissa Pitts of Southside, Alabama, and a student at Coosa Christian Academy, was nominated to attend the U.S. Military Academy.
- Micah Moore, son of Judge Roy and Kayla Moore of Gallant, Alabama, and a student at Marion Military Institute, was nominated to attend the U.S. Military Academy.
Although Senator Shelby nominated these students, the academy to which they were nominated will make the final admission decision.
