SHELBY ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL FUNDS FOR INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM ON U.S. 280 IN JEFFERSON COUNTY

WASHINGTON, D. C.--- U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced today that $484,714 will be released from the Department of Transportation for the Intelligent Transportation System on U.S. 280 in Jefferson County. Yesterday, Senator Shelby announced that $2,423,571 would be made available for this project.

Senator Shelby said, “I am pleased that the DOT will be making these additional funds available for the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) on US 280 in Jefferson County. These funds will be used to upgrade traffic monitoring systems, including traffic light improvements and installation of additional camera systems to monitor high traffic areas particularly during emergency situations. This project is of critical importance for this very congested artery in Jefferson County.”

Senator Shelby secured these funds through the 2005 federal appropriations process.
