SHELBY ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE IN MONTGOMERY

Senate Passes Military Construction Appropriations Conference Report

U.S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-AL) announces final passage of the conference report to accompany H.R. 2559, the Military Construction Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2004. Included in the bill is significant military funding for Alabama and for Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. The bill will now be sent to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

The bill includes $13.4 million for construction of Phase III of the SOS Dormitory complex at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. The funds will be used to make necessary infrastructure improvements by adding 162 spaces for recruit housing.

The bill also includes $12.6 million for construction of a state-of-the-art Integrated Operation Support Facility which will dramatically improve the Standard Systems Group and DISA functions at Gunter.

“I’m pleased the Senate passed this important legislation," said Shelby. "These funds represent our continuing commitment to our nation's security and to the men and women who serve our country.”

In total, $59.669 million for Alabama Military Construction projects was included in the Military Construction Appropriations Act.
