Senator Shelby Announces $3.5 Million for Auburn’s Research and Development Center

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced Committee approval of the fiscal year 2010 Agriculture Appropriations bill.  Included in this bill is $3.5 million for the Research and Development Center at Auburn University.  Upon completion, the new 65,000 square foot center will support the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service Aquatic Animal Health Research Unit and Soil Dynamics Unit, as well as Auburn University’s Department of Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures. Following today’s action by the Committee, the bill will now go to the Senate floor for consideration.

“The new facility at Auburn will provide researchers with the most state of the art facility to conduct research critical to Alabama and the nation's agriculture and aquaculture community,” said Shelby.  “The facility will bring together world class scientists to address pressing needs being placed on our aquatic and agricultural resources from our growing population.”
