U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded $250,000 to the State of Alabama for its Broadband Initiative.
“Communities across America that do not have access to today’s high-speed internet technology are at a competitive disadvantage in the marketplace,” said Shelby. “To expand business development and create economic opportunity in rural Alabama, we must provide our communities with access to up-to-date technology infrastructure. This money will help fund the Alabama Broadband Initiative planning effort.”
In addition to ARC funds, the total expected project cost of $551,225 includes $301,225 from the State of Alabama.
