U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $1,001,669 to A Child Is Missing. This nationwide program helps local law enforcement locate missing children, college students, and elderly and disabled persons using a high-speed telephone alert system. Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing this funding.
“Statistics show that nearly 2000 children are reported missing each day,” said Shelby. “This shocking statistic highlights the importance of programs, such as A Child is Missing, that help law enforcement locate these children and return them to their loved ones. This grant will provide funding to A Child is Missing so that it can continue to assist law enforcement during the crucial first hours of a person’s disappearance.”
