The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee today held the confirmation hearing for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Board nominees, including Howard Thrailkill of Huntsville. U. S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-AL) made the following statement of support for Mr. Thrailkill:

“I have long advocated for an Alabamian on the TVA board, and I am pleased the President chose Howard for this important position. Howard is well qualified and has a distinguished record as a successful businessman in North Alabama. I believe TVA needs board members with a good business background, like Howard’s, who have the knowledge and skills necessary to move TVA forward. Wise investment, debt reduction, and more efficient service to its customers, must be in TVA’s plans for the future. I believe that Howard’s service on the board will help TVA reach these goals.”

Mr. Thrailkill was nominated by the President for a term which will expire in May of 2011. He is the first Alabamian nominated to the board.
