U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $486,761 to the Alabama Attorney General’s Office to eliminate the backlog for DNA testing in sexual assault cases. Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing this funding.
“The use of evidence in criminal cases is paramount to solving crimes,” said Shelby. “This grant will help to eliminate backlogs of DNA analysis by providing funding to compensate two Special Agents and one Investigator that will review, evaluate and submit cases for DNA testing.”
