Shelby, Sessions Introduce Resolution Commending the Crimson Tide

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala), along with Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), today introduced a resolution commending the University of Alabama Crimson Tide on their victory over the University of Texas Longhorns in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) College Football National Championship Game.  Alabama beat Texas 37-21 in the game, which was played on January, 7, 2010, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.  The Crimson Tide’s victory completes a perfect 14-0 season and represents the 13th college football national title in school history for the University of Alabama.  Shelby holds an undergraduate and law degree from the University of Alabama.

“I congratulate The University of Alabama Crimson Tide for winning the 2010 BCS National Championship Game.  The University, the Crimson Tide faithful, and the entire State of Alabama can be proud of this team for not only winning, but for representing us on the national stage with integrity and class,” said Shelby. “Coach Saban, Mal Moore, and Dr. Witt have all done a phenomenal job of leading this program back to greatness while promoting the University’s mission to educate young persons and provide them with the tools to excel throughout their lives.  The 2009 championship is an extraordinary chapter in the long and storied winning tradition of the Crimson Tide, and I am sure that there are still many great things in store for the Capstone.”

U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) made the following comments:

“It’s a pleasure to congratulate the Crimson Tide for a remarkable season that will undoubtedly go down in the long history of Alabama football as one of its best.  The hard work, dedication, and excellence displayed by these student-athletes in pursuit of a national championship brought tremendous pride to the people of Alabama. Coach Saban and Coach Moore should be commended for their commitment to these young men, and for their passion for returning this storied program to the top of the college ranks. In truth, this championship adds to so many of the positive things happening at the University under the leadership of Dr. Witt, including a massive facilities upgrade, record-high enrollment, and a growing reputation among public universities for attracting high numbers of National Merit Scholars. This was truly a historic season for Alabama, and we’re already looking forward to great things next year, on the field and off.”
