SHELBY ANNOUNCES FUNDS FOR UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA-BIRMINGHAM'S INJURY CONTROL RESEARCH CENTER

U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and Ranking Member of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, today announced funds for the Injury Control Research Center at University of Alabama at Birmingham. The funds, totaling $1,239,134, will be released Monday by the Federal Highway Administration.

Senator Shelby secured this funding for the University of Alabama-Birmingham in the Fiscal Year 2002 Transportation Appropriations bill that was passed by Congress and signed into law.

Sen. Shelby said, "I am pleased to provide UAB's Injury Center with this funding. The research at the center will allow us to improve and expand the Alabama Trauma Care System and reduce mortality due to trauma-related injury."
