WASHINGTON, DC -- U. S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-AL), today announced the re-nomination of Mr. Howard Thrailkill to serve as a member of the Tennessee Valley Association board for a term to expire in May 2011. Senator Shelby had the following reaction to Mr. Thrailkill’s re-nomination:

Senator Shelby said, “This is a historic day for the State of Alabama as Howard Thrailkill of Huntsville has been nominated to serve on the TVA board. Following his confirmation, Howard will be the first Alabamian to serve the TVA in this capacity, and his appointment marks the beginning of what I am confident will be a permanent tradition. I have long been an advocate for the need of an Alabamian on the board, and I am pleased the President chose Howard for this important position. The President’s re-nomination of Howard to a longer term is important to the state as it will allow Alabama to have a strong voice on the board for years to come.”

Mr. Thrailkill was previously nominated for a seat on the TVA board for a term to expire in May of 2007. At the request of Senator Shelby and Senator Sessions, the President nominated Mr. Thrailkill for a longer term, which will expire in May of 2011.
