U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) today announced that the application period for the fiscal year 2008 Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP) is now available. The grant program is offered through U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency.
“Our smaller communities must be prepared to respond to any emergency or critical situation that may occur,” said Shelby. “This grant will allow local law enforcement and emergency responders in smaller communities to acquire the equipment and proper training needed to respond to a major incident. We must continue to provide critical assistance to emergency responders who are responsible for ensuring the safety of all of our citizens.”
CEDAP provides smaller communities and rural areas with technology and equipment, which when coupled with training and technical assistance, helps to enhance first responder capabilities throughout the nation. CEDAP provides resources such as extrication devices, thermal imaging, night vision and video surveillance tools; chemical, biological and radiological detection tools; information technology and risk management tools; and covert vehicle tracking tools.
The DHS will accept applications through Monday, June 30, 2008, at 5:00 p.m. EST. For more information or to obtain an application for the CEDAP, please visit the Responder Knowledge Base (RKB) at www.rkb.us.
