Shelby Announces $17,887 for Red Bay Police Department

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $17,887 to the Red Bay Police Department.  This grant is awarded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which provides funding for law enforcement agencies to implement programs that prevent and control crime based on their own identified needs.  Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing this funding.

“The Byrne grants are incredibly important to local law enforcement officers that are serving on the front lines of our communities each day,” said Shelby.  “We must ensure that our law enforcement agencies have necessary equipment do their jobs effectively and safely.  The Red Bay Police Department will use this funding to purchase a police dog to assist with detecting drugs and for tracking endangered persons, as well as ballistic shields and a bullet-proof vest for the canine’s protection.”
