Subcommittee Passes Transportation Appropriations Bill
U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, announced approval of funding for several Huntsville and North Alabama projects by the Senate.
Sen. Shelby said, "I am pleased that the bill provides significant funding for several Huntsville and North Alabama projects. These funds reflect our commitment to safe and efficient transportation and infrastructure."
Huntsville Intermodal Facility
Sen. Shelby said, "Our legislation provided Huntsville's Intermodal Facility with the $3 million needed to complete construction. The Intermodal Facility is designed to provide a modern operations center for Huntsville's transit service."
University of North Alabama Improvements
Senator Shelby said, "We were able to secure $2 million for the University of North Alabama's plan to improve transit and pedestrian access." This funding will improve access from the campus to the external transportation network and nearby communities, and it continues the initiative started two years ago to improve campus infrastructure by integrating the transit system to the pedestrian walkways and overpasses that are under construction.
Alabama A & M University
Sen. Shelby said, "I am pleased to announce $500,000 in transportation assistance to Alabama A & M. The money will allow the university to purchase buses and build bus facilities."
