SHELBY ANNOUNCES $150,418 FOR THE SHORTER VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT IN MACON COUNTY

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-AL) today announced that the Shorter Volunteer Fire Department in Macon County will receive $150,418 in federal funds for operations and firefighter safety. These funds are available for training and fitness, protective equipment, and modifications to fire stations and facilities.

These funds have been awarded by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office for Domestic Preparedness, as a part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This program will distribute $750 million in direct federal assistance to firefighters nationwide this year.

“This is great news for the Shorter Volunteer Fire Department. This grant provides critical support for our firefighters, and I am pleased that the Department of Homeland Security is following through on its commitment to our nation’s first responders,” Sen. Shelby said.
