U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and Ranking Member of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, today announced funds for Tuscaloosa's Eastern Bypass. The funds, totaling $19.42 million, will be released Monday by the Federal Highway Administration.
Senator Shelby secured this funding for Tuscaloosa in the Fiscal Year 2002 Transportation Appropriations bill that was passed by Congress and signed into law.
Sen. Shelby said, "I am proud to provide $19.42 million for the Eastern Bypass. This funding will allow us to construct a corridor connecting the Black Warrior Parkway Bridge with Rice Mine Road and Interstate 59. The construction of this project will improve access and improve traffic flow throughout the metropolitan Tuscaloosa area."
