Shelby Receives Distinguished Public Service Award from the United States Navy

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) today released the following statement upon receiving the United States Navy’s Distinguished Public Service Award from Secretary Ray Mabus:

"As we begin the 115th Congress, my support for the finest maritime force in the history of the world remains as strong as it has ever been.  I’m honored to receive this award today and view it as an opportunity to reaffirm my commitment to ensuring that the Navy has the capabilities and resources that it requires to be successful.

“Secretary Mabus understands that a 355 fleet – including 52 LCS/FF ships – is critically important to our presence around the world and to guaranteeing that we are well-equipped to execute future operations.  I look forward to working with President-elect Trump and my colleagues in Congress to foster the Navy’s essential role in the safety and security of our nation.”

Background: The Distinguished Public Service Award is the highest recognition that the Secretary of the Navy may offer a civilian not employed by the Department of the Navy.
