Shelby applauds EADS North America selection of Mobile as possible site

WASHINGTON, D. C.--- U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) today applauded an announcement by EADS North America that the Mobile Airport is one of four possible locations for a future aerial refueling tanker industrial facility.

Senator Shelby said, “I am extremely pleased that EADS North America has selected the Mobile Airport as one of its final possible sites for their tanker industrial facility. Mobile would be an excellent site for this project, and I believe that as the selection process continues, EADS North America will see the great benefit that the Mobile Airport can offer them.”

The Mobile Airport has been issued a Request for Proposal by EADS North America and has three weeks to respond with additional information.

In addition to the Mobile Airport, the following other sites have been selected as finalists: Melbourne International Airport, Melbourne, Florida; Stennis International Airport, Kiln, Mississippi; and, Charleston International Airport, North Charleston, South Carolina.

EADS North America is expected to complete the selection process by July 2005.
