U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will award $1,090,189 to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Of this funding, $793,189 will be used for heart and vascular disease research and $297,000 will be used for cancer treatment research.
“UAB is one of the premier medical research facilitates in the nation,” said Shelby. “This funding will help ensure that the University continues to conduct cutting-edge research on some of the most serious diseases facing Americans today. I strongly believe that research for new treatments should be an important priority for our medical research community.”
