U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $40,000 to the
University of Alabama at Birmingham for its Spina Bifida Patient Registry Demonstration Project.
“Spina Bifida is a debilitating birth defect affecting more than 70,000 people in the United States,” said Shelby. “This important grant funding will be used to test the feasibility of a national registry used to collect data on patients with Spina Bifida. The use of a national registry will provide medical personnel with more information on this disability and will help improve the quality of care for people living with Spina Bifida.”
