U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $497,241 to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for its DNA Backlog Reduction Program.
“DNA evidence is often crucial to solving criminal cases,” said Shelby. “This funding will help local DNA laboratories improve their infrastructure and analysis capacity so that DNA samples can be processed more quickly and backlog can be prevented. These improvements will help our justice system take advantage of the DNA technology available.”
