U.S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala) announced today that EADS (European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company) North America will expand its operations to Mobile, Alabama with a new EADS CASA facility. EADS CASA, a subsidiary of EADS, the second largest aerospace company in the world, offers a complete range of military transport aircraft, including mission aircraft.

Senator Shelby said, “I am pleased that EADS North America has selected Mobile as the home for their new EADS CASA facility. This announcement could lead to significant job creation and economic development opportunities for the region in the future. Long term, the number of new employees will increase substantially as the U.S. Coast Guard continues its planned procurement of additional CASA aircraft.”

The EADS CASA facility will be approximately 5000 square feet of office space, 8000 square feet of warehouse space, and will serve as a repair facility and technical services center. Future construction will include a hangar facility at the Mobile Regional Airport of approximately 18,000 square feet.

EADS CASA North America supports the U.S. Coast Guard's Deepwater Program with CN-235 maritime patrol aircraft. Mobile Regional Airport was selected due to its proximity to the U.S. Coast Guard Mobile Air Training Center where the CN-235 aircraft will be delivered and pilot training will be conducted.

Senator Shelby provided initial funding for three CN-235 aircraft through the appropriations process.
