SHELBY ANNOUNCES NOMINEE TO UNITED STATES SERVICE ACADEMY

Dale County Native Receives Nomination to U.S. Merchant Marine Academy

U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.) today announced that Saeah Wood of Daleville, AL has been nominated to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Senator Shelby nominates students every year to the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Saeah, the daughter of William and Juyun Wood, is a student at Daleville High School.

Senator Shelby said, “Furthering one’s education at our nation’s service academies is remarkable. Saeah has shown exemplary performance in the classroom and in her extracurricular activities. The selection process for the academies is extremely competitive, and I am pleased that Saeah has been nominated.”

Service academy nominees must be residents of Alabama and must complete the required ACT and SAT exams. Applicants are also required to provide letters of recommendation, their school transcript, completed medical examination, and the required application form.

Although Senator Shelby has made the nomination, the United States Merchant Marine Academy still has final selection.
