U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) will award $750,000 to the Birmingham Police Department. This funding will be used to help pay for the salary and benefits required to hire additional officers to perform community policing.
“We must ensure that our police departments have enough law enforcement officers needed to keep our communities safe,” said Shelby. “This COPS funding will assist the Birmingham Police Department in hiring and paying the salary of additional personnel so that the department can be effective in its law enforcement efforts.”
