U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Homeland Security will release $63,889 to the Sylvan Springs Fire Department in Jefferson County. The funding is provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
“Firefighters are in the field every day protecting our citizens,” said Shelby. “For this reason, we must ensure that our first responders have the most up-to-date equipment available. This funding will allow the Sylvan Spring Fire Department to fund its operations and safety programs.”
The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded these funds as a part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This program will distribute over $500 million in direct federal assistance to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations nationwide this year.
