SHELBY ANNOUNCES TRANSPORTATION FUNDING FOR AUBURN UNIVERSITY

Conference Committee Approves Funding–House and Senate Scheduled to Approve Funding Soon

U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, announced funding for Auburn University.

Sen. Shelby said, "I am pleased that the bill provides significant funding for several projects at Auburn University. These funds reflect a commitment to safe and efficient transportation and infrastructure."

Auburn University Campus Transit System

Sen. Shelby said, "Our bill includes $375,000 for Auburn University’s Campus Transit System. These funds will allow Auburn University to study the current campus-wide transit system to evaluate and improve transportation options for students, commuters and visitors.”

Asphalt Technology Pavement Research

The bill includes $1 million for the National Center for Asphalt Technology Pavement Research at Auburn University. The funding will be used to continue research related to improvemnt and evaluation of pavement performance by developing tests in the laboratory that predict problems earlier and efficiently repaired and other research that utilizes the Center’s 1.7 mile oval asphalt test track.

Auburn-Opelika Airport

Sen. Shelby said, “I am pleased our bill includes $1.5 million for an instrument landing system (ILS) at Auburn-Opelika Airport. This system will greatly enhance safety at the airport.”
