SHELBY ANNOUNCES MILITARY FUNDING FOR ANNISTON

U.S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-AL) announces the Senate Appropriations Committee's passage of the Military Construction Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2002. Included in the bill at the request of Senator Shelby is significant military funding for Alabama and for the Anniston Army Depot.

The bill includes $2.3 million for a Component Maintenance Facility and $2.850 million for a Rebuild Shop and Facility on Anniston Army Depot. This funding will support Anniston Army Depot in its mission to support the United States Army's heavy tracked vehicle maintenance needs. Anniston Army Depot is an integral part of the Army's legacy system recapitalization effort and these funds will help to improve the Depot's critical industrial infrastructure.

"I am pleased to announce these funds for the Anniston Army Depot," said Shelby. "These funds represent our continuing commitment to our nation's security and to the men and women who serve our country."

The Military Construction Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2002 includes a total of $105.581 million for Alabama military construction projects.
