U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $50 million dollars in the fiscal year 2008 Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Bill for the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grants (CDBG). These funds will go to Alabama to provide disaster relief to help people displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The bill will now go before the U.S. House of Representatives for consideration.
“Although Hurricane Katrina was several years ago, we must not forget the victims of this storm who are still struggling to put their lives back together,” said Shelby. “I am proud that our bill includes this funding, which will equip Katrina survivors with the tools they need to overcome this lengthy and devastating ordeal.”
The CDBG program provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. The CDBG program provides annual grants on a formula basis.
