Shelby Announces $100,000 for Franklin County Schools

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) will award $100,000 to Franklin County Schools’ Welding Equipment project in Russellville, Alabama. The funding will allow the County to purchase welding equipment for the school’s new welding program, expected to train 400 workers and students.

“It is critical that we continue to develop a well-trained workforce to sustain current and attract new businesses,” said Shelby.  “This new program will allow Franklin County Schools to train their students to meet the needs of area businesses, including the new National Railcar plant locating in Barton Industrial Riverfront Park, which is expected to employ approximately 600 welders.”

In addition to ARC funds, the total expected project includes $100,000 in funding from local sources.
