U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $134,152 to the Madison Police Department. This grant is awarded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which provides funding for law enforcement agencies to create and use programs that prevent and control crime based on their own identified needs. Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing this funding.
“It is essential that our law enforcement officers have the tools and resources needed to do their jobs,” said Shelby. “The Madison Police Department will use this grant funding to hire an additional police investigator to work on domestic violence cases and continue their public education and counseling for victims of domestic violence.”
