U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, announced Senate approval of funding for several Montgomery projects.
Sen. Shelby said, "I am pleased that the bill provides significant funding for several Montgomery projects. These funds reflect the Senate's commitment to safe and efficient transportation and infrastructure."
Interstate 85 Corridor
Sen. Shelby said, "Our bill provides crucial funding for the Interstate 85 corridor. $3 million in funding will be provided this fiscal year for this project to connect Montgomery and Prattville with Meridian, Mississippi. The creation of Interstate 85 is an important priority for me. Interstate 85 will bring significant economic development and opportunities to a region of the state that has not yet reached its potential."
Union Station/Moulton Street Intermodal Facility
Sen. Shelby said, “I am pleased to announce that we have secured $3 million for the Union Station/Moulton Street Intermodal facility. This facility is designed not only to provide a modern operations center for Montgomery's transit service but also as a hub of the riverfront development project.”
Auburn University - Center for Transportation Technology
The bill provides $20 million to continue construction on a facility that will house the newly established Center for Transportation Technology at Auburn University's College of Engineering. The Center is a major initiative that focuses the University's expertise in civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering, and computer science on developing analytical approaches to addressing highway design and construction, traffic modeling and simulation, vehicle safety, and other transportation issues.
Sen. Shelby said, "Auburn University has talented faculty members and students who have much to contribute to the challenges facing the nation's transportation sector, and it is critical that we provide them with the infrastructure needed to assure continued national prominence in this field."
Montgomery Regional Airport Sen. Shelby said, "This year’s transportation bill provides $2 million in funding for Dannelly Field to continue terminal reconstruction."
Clayton Municipal Airport
Sen. Shelby said, "Our bill includes $1.5 million to ensure that funding will be available for runway extension and improvement projects and other critical improvements to the Clayton Municipal Airport. "
Troy Municipal Airport
Sen. Shelby said, "This year’s bill provides $2 million to Troy Municipal Airport. Improvements for the airport are an important priority in this year's appropriations process."
Abbeville Municipal Airport
Sen. Shelby said, "Our bill provides $1 million for Abbeville Municipal Airport. The funds will be used to develop a master plan for the improvement and expansion of this airport."
Daniel Pratt Historic District Development
Sen. Shelby said, "Our legislation provides $500,000 for the development of this historic district in Prattville."
Alabama - Tombigbee Regional Commission Buses and Vans
Sen. Shelby said, "Our bill provides $450,000 for buses and vans throughout Wilcox county. This funding will allow the residents located in rural areas to have access to transportation and jobs.”
Auburn University - Dynamic Rollover Laboratory
Sen. Shelby said, “Preventing rollover crashes is an important public safety goal. This year’s transportation bill provides $1.5 million for a Dynamic Rollover Test Laboratory at Auburn University. This facility will utilize actual road testing to analyze vehicle rollovers and the many factors that contribute to rollover accidents. Both consumers and manufacturers will benefit from Auburn University’s dynamic testing and research. With its history of excellence in engineering, Auburn University will make an ideal home for the laboratory.”
