SHELBY STATEMENT ON REPRESENTATIVE PORTER GOSS’ NOMINATION TO LEAD CIA

Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), former Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, had the following statement regarding President Bush’s nomination of Representative Porter Goss (R-FL) to be Director of the Central Intelligence Agency:

“I have served with Representative Goss for many years and believe him to be a strong leader on intelligence matters.”

“Representative Goss brings with him the experience of chairing the House Intelligence Committee with oversight of the intelligence community, as well as his previous service as an Army intelligence and CIA officer.”

“I am hopeful that Representative Goss’ nomination as Director of Central Intelligence will serve as a springboard for the intelligence community to undergo the structural reforms critical to our national security.”
