UPDATE: SHELBY ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR ALABAMA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

Senate passes Military Construction Conference Report

U.S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-AL), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced Senate approval of the conference report to accompany H.R. 4837, the Military Construction Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2005. This legislation will now be sent to the President, which he is expected to sign into law. Included in the bill at the request of Senator Shelby is significant military funding for the Alabama Army National Guard.

The bill includes funding for improvements to be made to three readiness centers in Alabama. They are:

  • $5.537 million for the Readiness Center in Centreville

     

  • $3.649 million for the Readiness Center in Clanton

     

  • $4.527 million for the Readiness Center in Oneonta

Sen. Shelby said, “I am pleased that the Senate approved this important legislation. This funding will help the Alabama Army National Guard in revitalizing its infrastructure and will support its training mission. These funds also represent our commitment to national security and to the men and women who serve our country.”

In total, $98 million for Alabama Military Construction projects was included in the Military Construction Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2005.
