U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has awarded $356,843 to the University of Alabama. Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing this funding.
“Alabama’s fishing industry is integral to our state’s overall economy,” said Shelby. “Unfortunately, our fishing industry is constantly under attack by harsh weather conditions, global trade and fuel prices. The University of Alabama will use this funding to develop a model that will provide assistance in the Gulf Coast region’s attempt to create a resilient, vital, sustainable fisheries ecosystem and fishing industry.”
