SHELBY ANNOUNCES $17.5 MILLION IN TRANSPORTATION FUNDING TO BE RELEASED

U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.) announced today that over $17.5 million will be released from the Department of Transportation for several transportation projects across Alabama. The funding was appropriated in the Fiscal Year 2003 Appropriations bill.

The following projects will receive funding:

• $10,000,000 - Tuscaloosa Eastern Bypass
• $1,500,000 - I-65 and County Road 24 Interchange in Limestone County
• $1,000,000 - County Road 222 Bridge in Cullman County
• $1,500,000 - Barton River Port Industrial Park, US Highway 72 Project in Colbert County

In addition, the Federal Highway Administration Intelligent Transportation System Integration Program will be releasing a grant of $1,247,913 for the City of Huntsville, and $2,495,827 for the Center for Injury Sciences at UAB.

Sen. Shelby said, “These are critical transportation projects for the state of Alabama. I’m pleased the Department of Transportation will be releasing this funding soon so many communities can move forward on planning and construction.”

The expected release date of these funds is June 11, 2003.
