U.S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-AL) announces the Senate Appropriations Committee's passage of the Military Construction Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2002. Included in the bill at the request of Senator Shelby is significant military funding for Alabama and for Fort Rucker.
Included in the bill is $9.258 million for construction of Cantonment Fencing at Fort Rucker. These funds will provide for completion of a critical force protection initiative at Fort Rucker.
Also included is $3.050 million for construction of a UH-60 Parking Apron at Fort Rucker. This new apron will provide the space for the required six aircraft mooring points for 30 UH-60 aircraft as well as a 120 foot taxiway. Fort Rucker is the Army's flight school for new aviators and this project will increase training and operational safety by enlarging the aircraft parking and taxi area.
Senator Shelby also secured $3.5 million for the construction of a Physical Fitness Center at Fort Rucker. This facility will be a standard designed fitness center in the primary troop housing area to conduct indoor physical fitness activities. The current facility is outdated and overcrowded.
"I am pleased to announce these funds for Fort Rucker," said Shelby. "These funds represent our continuing commitment to our nation's security and to the men and women who serve our country."
The Military Construction Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2003 includes $20.814 million for Alabama Military Construction projects.
