SHELBY APPLAUDS CONFIRMATION OF CONDOLEEZZA RICE AS SECRETARY OF STATE

By a vote of 85 - 13, Dr. Condoleezza Rice was confirmed by the United States Senate to serve as Secretary of State. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) made the following statement upon her confirmation:

“I am pleased that Dr. Condoleezza Rice has been confirmed by the Senate to serve as our nation’s next Secretary of State. Her expertise on a broad range of national security issues and her extensive foreign policy experience will serve her well in this critically important post. As our country continues to face opportunity and challenges ahead on the international stage, I am confident that Dr. Rice will be a strong leader and extremely effective as America's chief diplomat.”
