Shelby Announces $11,076 for City of Decatur

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $11,076 to the City of Decatur.  This grant is awarded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which provides funding for law enforcement agencies to implement programs that prevent and control crime based on their own identified needs.  Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing this funding.

“The Byrne grants are incredibly important to local law enforcement officers that are serving on the front lines of our communities each day,” said Shelby.  “We must ensure that our law enforcement agencies have up-to-date equipment to help them do their jobs effectively.  The City of Decatur Police Department will use this funding to purchase equipment needed to investigate drug crimes, conduct undercover operations and accurately record crime scenes and evidence.”
