SHELBY ANNOUNCES DEFENSE FUNDING FOR ANNISTON
Defense Appropriations Bill Passes Committee
Senator Shelby, “I am pleased that the committee approved funding for these important Anniston area defense-related programs. They are critical to the stability of our nation's military infrastructure and readiness, and today's approval demonstrates our commitment to national security. In total, this bill provides $490.2 billion for new defense-related needs, including $50 billion for contingency operations related to the Global War on Terror.”
“As we continue to look for ways to reduce our nation's spending in light of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, we must also ensure that funding is provided for important priorities, such as our national defense.”
M1 ABRAMS TANK
Senator Shelby said, “Our bill includes a total of $190.775 million for M1 Abrams Tank upgrades. The M1 Abrams Tank has been and continues to be the most lethal ground combat system in existence anywhere. It is the backbone of our heavy forces and has been at the core of the work done at the Anniston Army Depot for many years.”
HYDRA 70 ROCKETS
Senator Shelby said, “This bill approves $156.879 million for Hydra 70 Rockets. This weapon gives Army aviators a critical strike capability and is produced in the Anniston area.”
STRYKER
Senator Shelby said, “This bill approves $878.449 million for procurement of 240 Stryker vehicles as well as the replacement of Strykers lost in combat. Anniston Army Depot plays a significant role in this program, and Stryker production in Anniston continues to gain momentum. This program is a critical part of the Army's transformation effort, and I am pleased that Anniston is helping to lead the Army into the future.”
MISSILE RECYCLING CAPABILITY - ANNISTON MUNITIONS CENTER
Senator Shelby said, “I am pleased that our bill includes $2 million for Missile Recycling Capability at the Anniston Munitions Center.”
