SHELBY ANNOUNCES OVER $267,000 FOR ASSOCIATION FOR RETARDED CITIZENS OF MADISON COUNTY

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation will be releasing $267,179 for the Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC) of Madison County for their Job Access Reverse Commute Program.

These funds will be used to replace older vehicles that are in disrepair, including the purchase of 15-passenger and lift equipped vans. This project also provides a comprehensive approach to addressing the transportation needs of individuals with disabilities in the Huntsville area. Transportation services will include round trip services to and from day habilitation programs, workshop programs, medical appointments, community jobs, and anywhere the individual needs to go to get their basic needs met.

Senator Shelby said, “I am pleased to announce over $267,000 for job access and reverse commute programs for the Association for Retarded Citizens of Madison County. These funds will enable ARC to purchase new vehicles and add new transportation routes to better accommodate the growing transportation needs of individuals with disabilities and their families in the Huntsville area.”

Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing these funds during the fiscal year 2005 appropriations process.
