The city of Dothan may be receiving money to help update the current communications system.
U.S. Senator Richard Shelby made the announcement on Thursday.
The bill was passed by a subcommittee and will now go to the full appropriations committee for consideration.
The bill includes critical funding for the law enforcement community to upgrade technology, including in-car computers, cameras and communications systems.
The funding also bolsters forensic capabilities.
The grant will assist state and local law enforcement in their ability to protect and serve their communities.
Shelby is asking for $500,000 to make the communications system possible for the city of Dothan.
