U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $1,720,846 to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, Law Enforcement and Traffic Safety Division (ADECA LETS). This grant is awarded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which provides funding for law enforcement agencies to implement programs that prevent and control crime based on their own identified needs. Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing this funding.
“It is critical that Alabama law enforcement agencies be able to cooperate and work together effectively to keep our communities safe,” said Shelby. “ADECA LETS will use this funding to encourage cooperation among Alabama’s law enforcement agencies combating violent crime and illegal drug activities.”
